I would recommend to even consider this really a good option
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K 10MP Digital Camera
10-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality poster-size prints
18x wide-angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized zoom lens
2.7-inch high-resolution LCD screen; HD video capture
Full SLR-like manual operations including aperture, shutter, program and full manual modes with Advanced Scene modes
In High Sensitivity mode, the FZ28 can shoot up to ISO 6400 in extremely low-lit situations.

The S5 IS is now a fairly old model (released in 2007). It has now been replaced by the SX10 IS and SX20 IS.

A better comparison would be between the Sony DSC-H50, and the Canon SX10 IS, not the older, S5 IS. As is... I recommend you buy the SX10 IS because it is better than the S5 IS. In the SX10's favour is 20x optical zoom and movie recording in stereo sound (VGA only, though).

p.s. none of the above cameras record video in HD (1280x720). They are limited to VGA quality only (640x480) which is ok in most instances.
