What kind of memory card do I need to get for my Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera?

I am about to buy that camera from Amazon.com. The website says they are giving away a free Kingston 4gb memory card w/ purchase of a Canon PowerShot camera. When I try to add the memory card to my shopping cart, it asks if I want a 4 gb, 16 gb, 8,gb or 32 gb memory card. What does that mean? Which one should I select? Thank you!

They hold different amounts of memory. 4gb being the smallest then upwards. If they are giving away the 4gb, then select the 4gb. Cameras can only hold certain amounts of memory. If you want more than 4gb, i suggest you do your research first. Contact the manufacturers and find out what is compatible with this camera.

4GB is probably about 400-500 shots with your camera. If that is enough for you then get the 4GB. If not...well 8G about 800-1000. You can do the math.

the gb is just the space that how many memories you can put in. larger the number the more you can put in.

KB - Kilobyte
MB - Megabyte
GB - Gigabyte
TB - Terabyte

For your camera, i would say from 4 GB to 8 GB is good enough, depend on how many photos you wanna take before transferring them to your computer.

32 GB is for the camera that has higher Megapixel so they need more space, like the canon 5D, it has 21 MP, like a double to what you have. so it the 5D use a 16 GB and you use a 8 GB then you both would end up about the same amount of photos when full.
32GB is too much of the space for you, if that 32GB is full with photos in it and it would take you forever to transfer them to you computer.
