Canon SLR digital camera lens!?

I want to buy a camera as a gift. I saw a great price on a Canon SLR and it comes with a few lenses. However, these lenses are Tamron brand. I have never heard of them and I was just wondering if they are worth it or if I should just stick with finding a Canon with Canon brand lenses. Any input would help. Thanks

Nothing beats a Canon "L" lens, but some of the Tamron lenses aren't bad at all.
If you want more accurate feedback, you'll need to provide more detail, e.g. WHICH LENS are you talking about?

There is nothing wrong with Tamron. In fact, it is one of a better after-market brand in the market.

If you can find a similar package that bundle with Canon Lens, that will be the prefer choice. Otherwise, go with Tamron.

I do not think there is any reason to fear Tamron lenses, they are a well respected independent lens maker. I listed a link to Tamron's website in case you are interested and one to Sigma who is a respected independent lens maker.

With all that being said, There are plenty of very good deals to be found where you can get a Canon DSLR with one or two Canon lenses and I would not blame you if favor that path.

Below I also included some links to dealers websites so you can find a good deal.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

Beware of prices that seem too good to be true on the Internet. I've seen deals like that and it turned out the lenses included were practically junk. That's not saying all Tamron lenses are junk but, without knowing exactly what lenses are included, I'm highly suspicious of this deal.

For what it's worth, entry-level Canon DSLRs like the Rebel XSi(EOS 450D) or T1i(EOS 500D) are typically sold with a single 18-55mm image stabilized kit lens. Some kits include this lens and a telephoto lens. For example, both the Rebel XSi and Rebel T1i are sold in a two lens kit that includes the EFS 18-55mm IS and EFS 55-250mm IS lenses. Those two lenses cover nearly all the needs of a typical amateur photographer and both kits are sold for less than $1000 with current rebates.

Tamron has equivalent optics to Canon and Olympus meaning the same quality pictures , the difference is that tamrons are much easier to break. I do make an exception to the above statement with Canons pricey L series lenses
