What can i do to fix my camera?

I have and Olympus FE 230 everytime I turn it on the zoom opens buzzes then closes again. It does that a couple of times then turns off. I have looked into the warranty but they want 80.00 to repair it and its only 7.1 megapixels. My husband paid 159.00 about two years ago but now I have seen 10 megapixel cameras for like 59.00 so its not worth it to pay that to fix it.

bin it..ur rite u can get a 12 meg pix for no money these days,<
cheeeper to buy new than fix...goood luck,,,

A bad or weak battery could be causing the problem. If its been recharged repeatedly or improperly mischarged it may no longer have enough capacity to operate the camera so the camera starts but shuts itself down. The buzzing may just be from the camera straining to complete the lens extension operation.

Unfortunately your camera (like many others) uses a proprietary battery. Direct from Olympus its $44. You might be able to find a decent aftermarket battery for about $30. I dont see an ac adapter which came with or is available for your camera. An ac adapter is a good way to eliminate battery problems or prove them.

I like cameras which use AA rechargeable batteries because theyre cheap, available everywhere and you can use AA alkalines in a pinch. Unfortunately as cameras are getting smaller and smaller this option is getting harder to find.

If its damaged it isnt worth repairing. Youre better just buying new. You have to decide if you want to fork over for a new battery and try that. If you do and the battery doesnt fix it youre stuck with a battery you probably wont be able to use in anything else.

Essentially the manufacturers who use proprietary batteries have almost made low end digital cameras disposable.

A two year old camera is not worth fixing. So, your best option would be to buy a new one. However, I recommend you don't get another Olympus because they're not too good, especially if you want good image quality and speedy performance, which is where they fall down.

For around the same price you can now get a Fuji FinePix S1500.A much better camera than what you have.I play with the one they have at Walmart every-time I go there. It's a well made camera. It's been there for months & still works fine. And people are terrible with display items.
Paying half the cost of a camera to have it repaired isn't a good idea. The same problem could pop up again later on.I'd go to a place like Best Buy or Walmart to see what they have in your price range. If you see something you like, then look for reviews of that camera online to see what other buyers are saying about it.That's what I did when I bought my Nikon P 90.The 5 star reviews out-numbered the 1 star reviews by 2 to 1.Bear in mind many rewiewers didn't have a clue as to how to use the camera.
