"I don't need a 14MP camera because the Internet only displays 3MP." Yes or No?

I guess you're right.
I only shoot photos for the Internet. I just bought a 5mp prosumer camera because it fits my needs. It is a Nikon E5000 with a 2.8 lens.

Perhaps...maybe? Sorry, your question is meaningless without further context.

No.

Your monitor will display at 72 pixels per inch.

If the image is 1 MP then it may fit on a normal screen (depending on size of screen of course, widescreen etc).

If it's 14 MP then you'll have to do a lot of scrolling to see all the image as it will be larger than any screen on the market today. But you will be able to see it.

Many programs reduce the image to fit inside the screen anyway so size (not with all things unfortunately) is not so important here.

The "internet" does not display anything. Your computer monitor does. There are very few monitors running at anything close to 3Mp, almost all are less than 2, and a lot are still 1 or less.

If all you want to do is post crappy pictures on Facebook, a VGA camera has all the pixels you need.

If you want to be able to actually make a decent sized print, VGA isn't close to good enough.
